First, what is 8+1+5?

8+1+3=14
1+3+8=14
3+8+1=14

8+(1+3)=14
(8+1)+3=14
1+(3+8)=14
(1+3)+8=14
3+(8+1)=14
(3+8)+1=14

Notice that addition is commutative!

(8+1)+5=8+(1+5)
8+1=9 1+5=6
9+5=14 14=6+8

No one here can possibly know what a poster does or does not already understand. Because most of the time they don't say. They post a problem. There could be 4 steps to something and they've already solved the first 3 and we'd have no clue. So we just have to start somewhere.
