    F1 to H1B tax filing
    Hi,

I am a little confused about what forms and how many versions of them I must fill out this year. I was an F1 (Canadian) student (on OPT) until 4/1/05. After that date, I became and H1B non-immigrant worker. My employer has broken my income into two separate W-2s. The first, from when I was on OPT, covers my income that did not have deductions for SS and Medicare. The second covers my H1B employment and includes these deductions. Do I file different forms for each of these W-2s or do I fill out the same forms, but one for each of the W-2s?
I would really appreciate some feedback. Thank you!

    Lelackie:

Yours is an easy case. Because you started working under your H-1B visa on April 1st, you meet the Substantial Presence Test.

You should file Form 1040, 1040A or 1040EZ, whichever one you qualify for.
