Well, is a deep subject. ;D The best thing I could recommend is picking up a 2nd ED. Players handbook (for older rules) or a 3rd Ed. Players Handbook for new rules. There is also the Core Rules CD (which is 2nd ED.).
For 2nd Ed. it is useful to flesh out some background for your character, where they lived, what they did, etc... Then choiise a race and class & roll up stats for the character (there are various way). The standard is roll 3d6 and apply it to one of your skills, Strength, Dextrity. Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom, Charisma... (we also used Comeliness [appearance]). Then, weapons armor... the list goes on... get a book. It's a lot easier and more detailed.
There's lots more better MMORPG's D&D, try Legend of Mir 2 and Mu Online
Ignore the other guy, he doesn't know what he's talking about. MMORPGs are computer games and we're talking desktop games... you know where you interact with people in real life.
Anyway there are 4 Core Rule books. Your original 3 were the Player's Handbook which contains most of the information you need to create and level a character, the Dungeon Masters Guide, which most players don't need to read, but it can be worth your while, and the Monster Manual, which is mostly used by dungeon masters (DMs, or storytellers if you prefer), but which you may use if you summon monsters with spells, have an animal companion or a familiar, or if you use polymorph spells. The fourth book which came out after the first and which some DMs don't allow is the Expanded Psionics Handbook, which adds additional rules for a third type of spellcasting which is a bit more flexible in some regards, and more restrictive in others.
The content of all four books is available at http://srd.pbemnexus.com/home.html.
This info is not sorted into the four books, but you can pretty much see the demarkations if you are familiar with them. All the psionics are listed under one section, all of the mosters under another, and Most of the DMG is listed sort of under the various chapters of the DMG. If it doesn't look terribly interesting it's probably from the DMG.
Oh, and I forgot to answer the second part of the question. Follow the said rules to create a first level character. Then add character classes as you like (see the section on adding levels. Basically you just add levels from any class you'd like, but if you multiclass too much it can cause an xp penalty). Now there is one section in there somewhere that shows a rough estimate of how much equipment you should have at your given level (above first). This is of course a guideline and your DM should have a specific amount in mind for how much your starting equipment should be valued at.
Hey do you play D&D?
If so which race and class do you like to play most? :)
inorder to create a lv 3 bieng you need to know weather it is a npc (non player character) or an actucal player!Quote:

do this for every stat (str, con, wis, cha, dex and int)
all the mods start from 10=0 so 11=0 12=1
