    Confuseing fractions
What part of a yard is 24 in? What part of an hr is 45 min? 1,320 ft are what part of a mile? 8/20 of a ton is how many hundreds of a ton?

Let me ask you a simple question.

A whole pizza has 8 slices.

If you take 2 slices, what part of the whole pizza did you take?

If you said 2 out of 8, then you're right.

The numerator would have the part you took (2) and the denominator would have the part that's whole (8) so it would look something like:

    2/8

    Which is eventually 1/4

So. In these problems, you'll have to do a bit of conversion.

For the first one, a yard is 3 feet, or 36 inches.

So to ask, what part of a yard is 24 inches... you simply do

    What you have/what is whole

    24 inches/36 inches

    24/36

    Which is eventually 2/3

    2/3, 3/4, 1/4, and the last one, 8/20=4/10ths or 40% of 2000.
You will want to know how you came up with these numbers. Other test will require a calculator. Good Luck
