    New belly button ring
I just got my belly button pierced:) about 3 days ago but it is starting to hurt :( I don't know what to do it has a bruise around the top hole at least I think it is a bruise. It is red around the top hole but I have no dischage. The pain kind of feels like it is ripping inside my new piercing what should I do? I have been giving it sea salt baths too.

Generally they do hurt for a few days maybe longer, and there can be bruising... but how many days has it actually been pierced?

Everyone I know who has gotten there bellybutton done has experienced some sort of pain, even at times infection. Just keep twisting it and cleaning it like they told you and if you start to get any discharge or the pain gets so unbearable go see a doctor as it could be infected, or simply take it out. I might suggest taking an anti inflamitory aka ibprofin (hope I spelled that right) to help with the bruising and swelling, even the pain; or maybe try icing it... don't know how well it would help but it's worth a shot.

    Hope you feel better.

Bruising can actually be quite common with piercings. Whether you bruise varies from person to person. Bruising can be caused by a broken blood vessel, or just by the sheer trauma of getting pierced. It should clear up in a few days.

If the pain feels like a ripping sensation, that might be an indicator that your barbell is not long enough to allow room for the swelling. You may want to go back to your piercer and request that he/she put a hoop in, instead of a barbell.

If there is no discharge, there shouldn't be anything to worry about right now. Keep in mind that a piercing is a wound to your body, so there is going to be some amount of swelling and/or pain. To soothe the pain, you can use Ibuprofen (as suggested above :)) and you can also use a warm compress for 10 minutes twice a day. The warm compress will soothe the pain a bit and help a little with the swelling. Just keep an eye on it to make sure the situation does not worsen.

Take it easy on the sea salt soaks -- sea salts can be very bad for your piercing if overused or abused. Do not use the salts more than once a day -- other than that, clean once a day with antibacterial soap. Do not overclean, because you can cause a flare up.

    Good luck! :)
