Fast weight loss is unhealthy and usually unsustainable, often resulting in the person gaining more back than they started with.

That said... starting a healthy exercise plan and reasonable eating pattern can make some differences, but it takes time and work.

If you starve yourself, your body will fight this by slowing your metabolism, meaning little weight loss while you will feel terrible.

So... this time of year, with dances and summer coming on, people are always looking for fast ways to lose weight. Unfortunately, it's a bad approach.

The better thing to think about is how can you get to a healthier weight... if its by prom, great, if its by the end of the summer, great... if you aren't happy with your fitness, its time to take this on... doesn't matter whether prom is coming or not.

So time to watch what you are eating. Drop the sodas, junk food, snacks at dumb times, no eating because you are bored. Get good sleep. Rest helps the body stay healthy. Take a good vitamin. On food, think about reasonable portions... its so easy to take more than you need. Start by taking 3/4 less, with more fruits and veggies. Your body will adjust quickly and you will be craving the fruits and veggies in no time.

There is no substitute for moving your body. Exercise is what is needed to prime your metabolism, which will help burn more calories. Walk, run, bike, walk stairs, etc... you must move your body. In the short run, you may not see a lot of body change, but you will see yourself getting stronger. Then you'll see the weight begin to come off. But it takes time and work.

Please don't let the deadline of prom be a reason for starting or stopping... its great to try to improve your health, and nice to look and feel good on special occasions... you know you are unhappy with where you are.

You have the ability and the power to change your health. It just takes some time, some planning, some patience, and some work.

Start walking then when you feel ready start jogging. You have to start working out push ups and crunches AFTER you run or jog for at least 20 minutes. No more soda, ice tea, Basically if the drinks ingredients has High Fructose Corn Syrup don't drink it (yes that includes Vitamin Water) Basically just drink water, No more Chips, No more candy, NO FAST FOOD, No fried foods.

Vegetables and fruits are your new best friend. Grilled Chicken breast with no skin is fine. I don't know how much weight you are going to lose, but losing a lot of weight really fast IS VERY UNHEALTHY!! Lose as much as you can in a healthy way and continue from there. You are only 14 and I know you want to look good for this years prom but if you eat right and exercise daily You will look INCREDIBLE for Next years prom.

Oh and don't try to take a shortcut with those weight loss pills like Hydroxy cut and Hot rocks you are WAY to young for that stuff.

When I was thirteen I exercised everyday and I ate slower(by chewing the food in my mouth about thirty times) and I dropped twelve pounds in three months. I heard that drinking water helps and drop the junk food.

The best thing that I did was to recognize what was causing me to gain weight, ex. Eating too many sweets, soft drinks, chips, alcohol (not in your case haha). Eliminating this habit will help a lot in your weight lose. Most people don't even realize that they are eating several times the amount of CHIPS that you are supposed to eat. So just adjusting you eating will help tremendously.

Another tip that helped me was to buy prepackaged meals, and use the ideas you get from those to create your own, freeze them, and pop them in the microwave when you need a healthy meal. The south beach diet "lunchables" are easy to recreate at home, all they contain are chicken, salad/low fat dressing, cheese, some healthy crackers and jello. These are SUPER easy to make at home and you can also add other healthy stuff to the ones that you make.
