Generally when a child is born in a certain country, that child is automatically granted citizenship in that country. The child is often considered a citizen of his/her parents' country as well, giving the child dual citizenship. However that does not automatically extend to the parents if they give birth to a child in a country other than their own.
In general, anyone born in Canada from 1947 onwards acquired Canadian citizenship at birth.
The only exceptions concern children born to diplomats, where additional requirements apply.
I have lived in Canada since I was 3 years old. I had both of my kids in Canada, they are citizens, I am not. In order for me to become a citizen I have to apply and take the citizenship test.
Yup, just to confirm, the baby will be a citizen but the mother would not. You would have to return home and getting the baby citizenship in the country where the mother is from would be a hassle.
Also the mother would have to pay for the hospital stay during the birth since she is not a citizen.
