    linear equations... finding the value of a straight line
    hi there... can you answer this for me please.

    or even give a better layman understanding of how to interprete the formula.

    the equation is

    y-y1=m(x-x1) ------ (1,2) gradient 3

    is m the gradient or is x1 the gradient

    arrrgh I`m trying to help my little brother here and its hard because the book is not in front of me, that said I`m not the best at algebra or math really. I do have a little bit of memory from school but considering it was 11 years ago its kind of blurry
    thanks for any help you can give me

    formula: y-y1 = m(x-x1)
    point: (1,2)
    slope: 3

    y-2 = 3(x-1)
    y-2 =3x-3
    +2 +2
    _________
    y = 3x-1 ------ Answer; equation of the line

    Oh I forgot to answer your other question. 3 is your gradient or slope.
