Lien on my house. Not my debt
A builder moved a sewer in a public easement across our property. He did not pay a sub who then filed a $20,601 lien against the builder and in MY NAME. The lien was on my house and property. Later, when paid the release does not mention the builder, has MY name and says “the indebtedness has been compromised or otherwise settled and in recognition of such compromise or settlement” the lien is released.
I have had a top credit score and since this is a permanent record have this question, is my credit going to suffer because of this lien? I am concerned it looks as though I did not pay when the debt was someone else’s.

If I understand what you are saying, an organization has a lien on your property wrongfully. The builder, which you contracted, sub-contracted some of the work to another company and he/she didn't pay that sub-contractor. The sub-contractor then places a lien on your property.

Contact a lawyer and this lawyer will fight to get this lien removed. The sub-contractor should not of went after you because you have nothing to do with his/her contract yes you reap the benefits of his/her work but you were not the person that contractor him or her. Bad sub-contractors do this because all they care about is getting paid for the job and they really don't care where the money comes from.

Contact a lawyer that has a back round in real estate, liens and such. Most first consultations are free he/she will advise or represent you. Then sue sub-contractor for the lawyer fees, court cost and any damage done to your credit.
