I am a student and I file the 1040NR each year. This year I bought a new car . Can I deduct the sales tax I paid . If so can I do it whle filing this last i.e 2007 taxes or do I need to include it in next year. Also, the car is on lien so does that matter.

If you deduct sales tax then you cannot deduct state income tax. Also it must be deducted in the year you paid it.
