    PC won't boot up
I had windows 98 on my PC and upgraded it to win Xp. It was working fine at one point but the display was not showing correctly. It wouldn't let me change the settings. Now it will not boot up. The screen comes up testing drive called FAT something.. How can I fix this.

If it's checking the disk when it boots up, let it finish. Usually this means that something didn't shut down properly, so windows si just checking the hard drive for errors, and fixing anything it comes across that it can.

If you really want, you can cancel the disk check, too. When the text starts to appear on the screen, it will say "Press any key within X seconds to cancel disk check"... I think it's 10 seconds that it does that for.

Can I put the windows XP disk back in and try installing?

You can put the CD in and try to do a repair install. That way you shouldn't lose any data, although there are no guarantees.

Have you tried booting up in safe mode? You can use system restore from there to restore to an earlier date.
