    Rights adoption name change?
My oldest sons father wants to sign his rights over so that my husband can adopt, and so he doesn't have to pay child support. This is a difficult case. There is legal grounds for abandonment, he hasn't seen the child in 4 yrs. He moved to ny and we live in tx. He is over 6,000 behind in child support. We would like to also change his name we call the child rj his real name is ray atwell sanders jr we would like to change it to something like ray james couch so that we can still call him rj I need help. I don't know the laws for state to state and all that:eek: I'm freaking out

    Get a lawyer. Seriously.

There is too much going on here to try to handle this without legal council. You will probably need a lawyer to file the adoption papers anyway--get a lawyer involved from the beginning so that you make sure everything done is in the best interest of your son.
