Canadian laws on returning engagement rings
My boyfriend proposed to me. I announced the news to my family and friends. Now he`s calling off the engagement and wants the ring back. I feel it was given to me with a promise that HE is breaking so I don`t really want to give it back. Legaly do I have to? I`m from Ontario, Canada.

I don't know the laws in Canada but technically the ring is his; he paid for it so more than likely you would have to give it back.

Why would you want to keep it after he broke it off?

My research indicates it's Provincial Law and in Ontario the ring is returned. If he doesn't sue you you get to keep it; if he does, you'll lose it.

(I don't know why you would want to keep it. I'd give it back and be done with him.)
