My fridge has an "energy saver" switch.

Because the cabinet temperature is cold and when you have warm humid air surrounding the cabinet, water will condense on the cabinet. This depends on dew point (air temp, air RH, and surface temp). Condensation can cause problems like rust.

What the manufacturer's did was to place heaters in the door that increase the cabinet temperature. Turning these heaters off is the energy saving mode.

It's important to keep the refrigerator coils clean. Dirty coils will cause excess energy consumption.

You can turn the energy saving mode on typically if you use air conditioning and sometimes in the winter.
