    Hard drive file recovery
I have accidentally deleted files in the temp folder of Windows 98. The computer will not now boot up to view my document folders. Is there firstly an easy solution to this? I don't want to use the floppy Windows boot disc as this will restore the PC to factory settings losing all my data. Therefore I would like to take the hard drive out and install a new one with Windows XP. Then place the old hard drive in an external caddy connected to a USB port. Will I then be able to retrieve the lost files back on to my new hard drive?

Have you tried to go to the recycle bin to see if you can restore the files you deleted?

In windows explorer, go to the bottom of the list and click on the recycle bin and you should see the files that were deleted
Right click on the files or folder you would like to get back and click restore
Post back if does not work

Thank you for your reply, however after deleting the temp files and switching off the PC, I am now no longer able to view the desktop or start menu to view the recycle bin. I just get a message saying Internet Explorer has performed an illegal operation and can go no further?
