I have a really weird question that I hope someone can help with. How long does a male have to be on the female in order to do his thing? How long should we leave the male and female together? Last but not least, when will we know that the female has been bred?

Male cats will be able to sire kittens when they are about 5 months of age. They should not be used for breeding, however, until they are 18 months of age.


Female cats generally are sexually mature when they reach at least 80% of their adult weight. The timing of heat in a female cat is also dependent on the amount of daylight. Thus a female cat may have her first estrus anytime between 5 and 12 months of age. Feral (free-roaming) cats may reach sexual maturity earlier than indoor cats. Although a female cat is sexually mature when she is less than one year of age, she should not be bred until she is 18-24 months of age.


This is why vets recommend spay and neuter at six month, In 7 years, one cat and her young can produce 420,000 kittens.

So sorry I have miss read you question, no need to get grumpy, As far as I know there is now way to judge a time for the ejaculation of the male cat,

Cats generally have their kittens 58 to 65 days after they are bred,

If you are breeding your cat why would you do that when thousands are euthanized every year because no one wants them?

I'm not sure there is an exact time, but I assume you are trying to breed? In that case, you should keep the cats together, preferably in a large indoor area, for several days. Keep the sire and the queen in a large area together (a basement works well) for a week ideally, but a minimum of about 4-5 days. This is the least traumatic for the cats, it gives them time to get used to each other and to their surroundings, if they are new to each other. Also, if you are paying a stud fee, it's best to keep them together this long to make absolutely sure they breed. Be sure though, that the cats are separated at night, so they can eat and have a bit of rest. Generally they will breed several times during the week, but there is no way to know for sure if the breeding is successful, even if the queen lets out the "roar" that completes the act. Also, don't be alarmed if the queen continues to be in heat after the week with the sire. This is normal, even if she is pregnant.

There is no way to be absolutely sure of fertilization, unless of course you wait and see if the queen has kittens! Seriously though, you usually just have to wait it out. If the queen is not pregnant, she will go into heat again about 1-3 weeks after the breeding. If you're anxious and want to spend the money at the vet's, ultrasound can be used to diagnose pregnancy after 17 days.

I am a breeder, And you don't have to leave them in a room together the entire week, What I do is very simple I take my female into my Kings room and wait a few hours then I do the same rotine the next day and the next. So I breed her 3-4 times in stages like this. When you leave them together they sometimes will fight and hurt each other really bad! My Mom Cat lets me know she's had enough all she does is scractch on the door to come out. And that means she wants out for a break. She will then return right back to the door when she wants in. You can know your Cat is Pregnant just by her behavoir change this is very noticeable if you know you Cats... Good Luck... Dont let your Cat get hurt the vet bill for scatched eyes can be very expensive... This did not happen to me but I know of a breeder that it did. So again know your Cat and you will know what to do. I am new at breeding (Ragdolls) and my female is 12 months and my male is 4 months. How old does my male have to be in order to breed? I heard the male is ready some times at 5 months...
