    Child support and parental rights
I am currently responsible for paying child support for my daughter, which is actually putting me in the hole every month, for only seeing her two or four hours a month. In Florida, can you give up your parental rights and child support? How long would it be until you could see your child? :(

There are HUNDREDS of threads in this forum that ask the same questiuon. They all have the same answer. There is even a sticky note that answers the question. But that means you have to look before you post.

Bottomline: No court will terminate parental rights just to allow the parent to get out of child support. No how, no way. Some states do end child support when they do a TPR, others don't. But TPRs are generally granted ONLY to allow for adoption or because the parent represents a danger to the child.

If you do a TPR, then you have no rights at all to the child. You can't see her without the custodial parent's permission which does not have to be granted.

If you want more visitation, ask for it.

    Just to back up Scott...

No you can't relinquish your rights to get out of paying child support.

If the mother is married and her spouse wants to adopt the child, then you could relinquish your parental rights and chid support would stop once the adoption is finalized. But you would have no legal rights to see the child... that's what "giving up your rights" is. You can't have your cake and eat it too.
