Can a vehicle be repossessed more than once?
In Feb. 2007, I got a van from a local used car dealership. In December 2007, the van was repossessed for deliquent payment. In February 2008, I got the van back for the amount that was past due. I have heard that once a vehicle is repossessed you have to make the full payment to get it back. Does this mean that the dealership gave me the van back in error? Am I still obligated to pay the balance or is this now to be considered my property? I live in the state of Virginia.

    Hello chunky:

    You heard wrong...

And, the next time you "hear" something, ask yourself whether it makes sense. Why would the legislature pass a law that prevents the owner from getting his car back, and let's the thief have the car for free??

Why would they do that?? They like passing laws that helps crooks and hurt businessmen?? Really?? Dude!!

If you don't continue to make the payments, they will repossess it again. They let you have it back when you caught up the past due amount. If you get behind again, they have every right to come and get it again. Otherwise, no one would ever pay off the entire balance...
