Hi I was wondering if someone knew of a good place to get some handwriting examined? It's actually a signature or my signature on my divorce paperwork. I didn't sign it but have the form that does have my name in signature form on it. I live in Alabama and do not have a lot of money to spend but am taking my ex to court for forgery. I just want to get all of my ducks in a row before I do go forward. Any "Positive" help would be greatly appreciated.

Any Licensed Private Investigator has a handwriting expert source - but it is fairly expensive because comparison and a sworn statement take a considerable amount of time.

The Notary had to watch the person sign and then notarize the signature. It is illegal to notarize any other way. Why not subpoena the Notary and she what he/she had to say and what identification the person who signed used?

Handwriting analysis isn't considered to be a stable piece of evidence and usually inadmissible in court.

Not where I am - perhaps in Ohio (which I believe is where you are). I don't know about the rest of the States.

The document is not noterized...

I used to do handwriting analysis years ago. I know that now it is expensive to hire someone to do this. If you did not sign this document why can't you just testify that you did not sign this? Bring along some real examples of your real signature. If the fake is really different from the real one, I am sure the Judge can see for himself. Also it will cost you a lot of money to bring the expert to court to testify.

I actually just had a co worker tell me to go to the cops and use them to validate the forgery plus they would probably make me fill out a police report and go through a DA for persucution. Thanks excon for your opinion. I appreciate it.

I'll be amazed if the Police show any interest unless this is a forgery involving money and you are pressing charges.

In my area they rely on witnesses, they do not do their own handwriting analysis.

Please keep us informed. I'll be interested in where this goes.

Of course, you'll have to make a complaint. I wasn't implying that you could "use" their services for your own ends... You can't. The cops have their own agenda.

What I WAS implying, is that I think he committed a crime, and the cops will use their own services for their own ends, and their ends are putting him in jail.

If they do that, THEN you can use his criminal conviction to guarantee a victory in a civil case against him. In that way, you "used" the services of the cops.
