I make furniture at my farm in Ulster County New York. My barn is full to capacity with cherry, pine and tiger maple farm tables, coffee tables, wardrobes, large thick benches. What I would like to do is find someone with a store that could sell these beautiful items instead of me having sales here on my property.

The sales I have had here have been successful but I want to make furniture, not sell it. I am located less than two hours from NYC. Any help would be appreciated.

Is the kind of furniture you make of a modern design or based on historic furniture designs, please? Knowing that would be helpful. Also, is your furniture finished or unfinished?

My furniture is a mixed bag of farm tables, old looking wardrobes, modern looking benches up to seven feet long made of 2" thick cherry 16" wide, one of a kind designs for coffee tables (tiger maple trimmed in cherry). Harvest tables made of pine 22" wide boards, all finished in either tung oil, Danish oil or polyurethane. Pictures available. Thanks

It sounds to me like you have some great stuff there! But, in order to find some store that wants to market what you have, you are going to have to do some "walking and talking." The people that might be able to sell what you have aren't going to be coming to you unless they know about you, and that you have the kinds of furniture that is marketable enough so that you and they can both make a profit.

You could try the following searches to find stores that might want to sell your furniture.

Furniture Dealer, Ulster County, New York - Google Search

Antique Dealers, Ulster County, New York - Google Search

Of course, there are also the listings for furniture dealers, wholesalers and antique dealers that you might find in the Yellow Pages of a phone book.

Even though your furniture is new, you might be able to find some antique dealers that might want to sell some of your pieces for you because what you have might go along and be complimentary with the kinds of antiques that some people might be purchasing. I have seen new furniture being sold in antique stores.

You could make up a brochure with some images of your work and an introductory letter to people that you might think would be interested in selling your furniture.

An additional route is to talk to designers. Not that they will stock your product, but if they love it they will want to use it in their projects. Once you get some stores carrying your furniture that is a good time to introduce them with a portfolio of some sorts and the stores that are carrying it.
