Live in ny, work in NJ IT211-R
    Hi,

    I live in NY
I changed jobs during 2005, to a company in NJ.
I'm currently filing my state taxes, I know I have to file a IT211-R to claim credits for tax filed in NJ.

Does anyone know, on line 24 of the form, where it requires you to fill in the tax computed on the NJ state tax return, is that the tax-withheld figure on the NJ W-2 form? Or it's the figure worked out from NJ tax table based on the State salary earned in NJ?

I can get a tax return from NJ state return, does this affect the above figure?

    Thanks!

It's the amount of tax you compute using the state tax tables.

Further, attach a copy of the NJ return when you file the NY return. That is not required, but it can head off any questions the NY state tax authority may have.

    Thank you so much!

(I called the ny state help line, and the guy on the phone said it's the figure on the W-2 form, but he seemed unsure, I don't think he know what he's talking about, because the instruction never said anything about W-2, and I ended up more confused.)

One more question, is this amount I find on the table or the amount I calculate when multiply with a percentage one line 39 of NJ-1040NR?

Whichever method used to calculate the tax is the amount used.
