    Windows ME operating system
    Hello,

I have a compaq presario 5000 series, and it has an old software versoin of Windows ME. (Melinnium). I want to change the operating system to Windows XP. I do have a gateway Restore CD from another computer I have, and I was wondering if I could use the same restore cd in my Compaq to install windows xp. I have all the installation cd's from my other gateway computer. I keep getting the error message when I want to install new programs on my Compaq, such as Micro Soft windows 2003, when I put the installation cd in my drive it gives me an error message of "THE PROGRAM REQUIRES A NEWER VERSION OF WINDOWS". I was having the same problem when trying to download drivers for my printer on the "Brother" website. A support tech. tried to walk me through, but we kept getting same message. I found my installatin cd for my printer and I couldn't install it. But when I said I wanted to repair the installation, I was able to install it. I never had the printer added on my system before, so I don't know why it allowed me to do a repair. It worked so I'm happy about the printer. But I am still having problems about my Micro Soft Windows 2003. I need to install this program and I having no luck.

"Microsoft Windows 2003" is a server operating system. Did you list the wrong software name?

For your reference, Windows ME is the worst operating system ever released. Micrisift had it on the market for less than 6 months, and therefore it is very difficult to find fixes and supported drivers.

Yes you probably can upgrade a Win ME system to XP. But not via the Restore CD for a different PC. First that would be illegal, second the hardware is different.

If you are referring to Micorsoft Office 2003, that should run under Win Me.
