    Evict a daughter
My daughter gets up every morning to go to methadone clinic but she can't work or go to school. We can't keep up her cost we have custody of her son and it's a constant fight with him because of things she tells him

And your question is - ?

The title is "evict a daughter" so maybe you want to evict her from your home? Does she pay you rent or just "stay" with you?

I have sort of mixed emotions on this one - I don't know how long she was addicted but if she gets up every AM to go to the methadone clinic at least she's making some attempt to change things.

She's been addicted to something for at least 30 years she's been in and out of our home at least 6 times this time she won't leave because she doesn't want to work or go to school for something. She's not trying to help herself or her kids at all

If she is just "squatting" with you, tell her to get out, pack up her stuff. If she refuses to leave you may have to take her to Court. The Police won't necessarily get involved.

    Otherwise start an eviction proceeding.

Yes I agree you should have evicted her long ago, give her notice to move out, and if she does not take her to housing court for a formal eviction

Is your daughter getting counseling of some sort? If she was OK she would want to do something with her life. I am not an expert but I feel she needs to have some sort of support already in progress when and if you evict her.

I don't think anyone disagrees with you... but this is a legal forum, not a relationship forum.

It sounds like the mother has tried for 30 years to get the daughter straight and is out of options.

It doesn't sound like her daughter will ever be able to work. She is mentally ill and will always be. This is a very tough situation. I can only imagine what this family has had to endure and my heart goes out to them. Perhaps they have already tried setting her up and helping her to get her life together. Perhaps she already tried living at a half way type of situation on her own. Parents probably just can't cope with her problems anymore.

Me again - I just read through the posts. Are you saying the daughter is incurably mentally ill because she's drug addicted?

Please keep your comments to me on the Board - if you don't have the stomach to post it on the Board, then don't send it privately.

I have no desire to debate whether people with addictions are, in fact, mentally ill, on or off the Board. This is a legal Board and that is not a legal topic.
