Cast iron DWV removal-will crack at fittings with sledge hammer?
Was told a sledge hammer will crack 4", 2" etc cast iron DWV if struck on the joints? Also what it the best or various ways to cut into a 4" cast pipe.
The long handled cutter, partner saw, other?
    Thanks

You are correct. Cast iron's brittle and will break easily when smacked with a gammer. Cast Iron's also very hard so cutting it with a Saws-All while take some time amd a slew of metal blades. We use snap cutters to cut a horizontal drain line and a set of ratchet cutters to cut a vertical stack.
    Good luck, Tom

Thanks Tom, there's a rubber or plastic ring around the joints. Is that usual? Purpose? Snap cutters cheaper but can't use vertical?
A guy rented a partner saw, like a chop saw with gas engine metal cutting blade. Too much to buy. Like to just get one tool to do both vertical and horizontal when I need it again.
    Thanks, rosharo
