Break a Lease With New Owner?
    Hi,
We just bought a building with five tenants, all with one-year leases last week. One gentleman asked us if, since we are new owners, if he has the legal right to break his lease. From what we think we found in Wisconsin statutes, is that he can't. Are we reading that right? Thanks for your help. We want to be good landlords.

The only way he would have the right to break his lease is if his written lease gives him that right. Otherwise the lease remains in full force upon transfer of ownership of the property.

Thanks... we thought that was the case, but it's good to hear it from someone who actually knows.
