Q1 visa wich form and how to fill in for taxes
    Hello

I worked in 2005 with the Q1 visa. I would like to know if this is a work visa or student visa? The Q1 visa is for practical training, employment and sharing of the participantīs native culture. So I donīt know how to fill the form. The form I got is 1040NR-EZ but I want to know how do I fill it. I If fill just line 6, 18, 22,23 and 24 as I did last year, because I was with a J1 visa and I made an exchange program. In 2005 it was an exchange program also but the visa status is different. So should I fell the form as a worker and fill lines 3,710,12,13,14,15,17,18,22,23 and 24?Can somebody help me? Iīm lost.

You got Q1 visa so you know why it was issued.
You will file nonresident tax return with Form 8843 and will get treaty benefit according to the purpose for which you were in the U.S.

If you can't do the tax form get professional help.

Hi Mukata. I called to the IRS in Philadelphia and they informed me that I canīt use treaty benefit because Brasil has no treaty with U.S.A. They said that the taxes I made in 2004 were wrong.. because... I used the treaty benefit and itīs not correct. So, they told me to use form 1040NR-EZ. I have been talking with friends.. and everyone did differently... well, I apreciate for your help and attention. If you have a different opinion from then I want to know.

    Thank you very much

On Q1 visa you will get treaty benefit. Evidently, if your country does not have a tax treaty, you don't get any benefit..
