Dating and dreams of an ex
How do you start something new withsomeone else when someone from your past keeps coming to you everyday in dreams?. and the person you dream about was your fist love and you still have feelings for him.

Perhaps, You are not ready to start something new. Maybe you still need time to heal. Dating is a great band-aid for lost love but not a solution. You will more than likely get hurt and hurt this new person as well. I think you should first get over your ex.

Sarah is right. You need to be completely emotionally stable and baggage free before engaging in a relationship. I've been there, in fact I just posted a question with something I'm going through right now because I entered into a relationship before getting my life in order.

Take your time, clear you head. Learn to love yourself and be happy. Then and only then can you have a relationship that will be successful.

They say you never get over your first love.
Also people tend to romanticize and idealize a past relationship because they tend to remember the good things and block out the bad.
All you can do is get on with your life and hope that it eventually fades away.

The advice you gave her might work, but what about someone who has been out of a relationship for 4 years with their ex but still has deep feelings for them?? We talk every once in awhile, and he passes down my street from time to time. I just had a dream about him last night, and I can't get him out of my mine..

You could either contact your ex and ask if there might ever be a chance for you two ever getting back together (in which case you can clear your mind either way), or if that's not possible, let the peaceful feelings you have for your first love be a safe harbor for you to appreciate when you feel lonely. In other words, you don't necessarily need to push aside your feelings. And one day, someone new might come along who brings you back into the present...

The best way is to leave them alone, and stay busy building a life that makes you happy. Getting very involved with yourself, and people you enjoy. Be patient, and give yourself time, as jumping into another relationship, before burying the old one, is unfulfilling, unhealthy, and so unfair. Do you still talk? Are you friends?
