    Since this is "Computers for Beginners", I have to ask why you want to manually look at the FAT.

    If, instead, your question is how to see if a partition is formatted with FAT or NTFS, then (in XP) you can right-click on My Computer, select Manage->Disk Management. That shows you the file format of all the partitions on your system.

    I've attached what mine looks like.

    Through Windows Explorer of course. Oh you want to know how to view the raw data, don't you?
