In 2007, I had a F-1 visa, foreign student visa, and worked for the company with OPT status. Is there any way I can elect to be resident alien for the whole year and file married filing joint return with my wife even thouth F-1 visa holder is considered as non-resident alien? Only if your wife is resident for 2007. If your wife is nonresident, then you can only file nonresident tax return unless you have already completed 5 years on F1/OPT.
