I have a major odor in a basement bathroom that has an upflush system. It all seems to be installed and vented properly. The smell seems to be in the toilet water and the toilet is a little loose. Could this be the problem and what can I do about it?

Could the odor be coming from around the base of the toilet since you said the toilet is loose?

It's possible. Would a loose toilet cause odor?

It sure would if the wax seal were ruptured. You might want to pull the toilet and replace the wax seal. Good luck, Tom

Tom, I replaced the wax ring and still get the smell. I have a vent behind the bathroom wall, it is in a space about 2' deep, 10' tall and 10' wide. If I add pipe I can go up and over the top of the bathroom and tie the vent into the upflush vent going through the roof. Could this possibly help with odor?

Are you saying the vent pipe terminates inside your wall? If so you have located the source of the odor. Complete the vent out the roof or revent in the attic back to a dry vent. Good luck. Tom

Yes. It is a vent that stands about 3' high, directly behind the sink. Will it be OK to tie into the dry line of the upflush? To tie it in I will need to add about 20' of pipe. Will adding that much pipe allow the drains to function properly?
