I have a stand-up shower unit that leaks in the outside corners only when I turn on the shower diverter. How is this possible? There is a flange on the shower pan that goes behind the tile/drywall. How does water get to these corners ? I thought it might have been my caulking job but did again still leaking in corners on the outside of shower enclosure. I looked at the piping on my diverter no leaks where else can this be coming from? Is it the Drain? If was the drain how will it get to the outside corners? Please help

What type of stand up shower do you have? Custom tile or manufactured base and enclosure? By "shower diverter" do you mean shower valve? Regards, Tom

I agree, we could use some more details. If you have a diverter this must be a tub/shower, right? Are these leaks down at the floor?

Yes shower valve. I have a manufactured basin but I tiled the walls. I took the panels off the wall and put tile do to the fact it looked pretty cheesy. Yes the leaks are on the floor in the corners. I took the drain cover off the drain and stuffed the drain with wet rags and then filled the basin up about 1.5'' of water it did not leak until I took the rags out to let the water flow back down into the drain. (Sterling). Could this be just the drain is leaking or could it be something else? Stacy

Sounds like the drain for sure, check for snug fit or silicone around edges.

Thanks if it is snug,where exactly should I silicon? Around the 2'' pipe or on top of the gasket ? Thanks Stacy

First pull off drain cap and make sure everything is tight and secure, there should be no play at all between floor and shower pan that is crucial because it means that your drain pipe is also moving up and down with it. If it does move see if you have room to put some expansion foam under shower pan, wait 24hrs and test drain again after makinsure all connections are secured properly. Silicon should be applied around drain cap only or against abs pipe that comes through your shower floor. Hope this helps abit.

Will try.. the drain cap being the silver grating that I took off that has old silicone/cailk resedu on it? Do I put more silicone or plumbers putty under the draincap when putting back in place? Thanks Stacy

Also do I put the silicone atop the plastic nut ontop of the 2'' ABS or take the nut out then put silicone on then place plastic nut back in place? Just trying to make sure I do everything right before having to tear up my subfloor. Thanks again Stacy

You could use plumbers putty, but I prefers silicon, make sure it is clean and dry and no usage for24hrs. And yes it is the silver cap. Good luck with it and let us know how it works out. Rb

You could take the plastic nut off and just make sure it is connecting properly but silicon should not be necessary on it.

DO NOT remove or loosen the large nut or use silicon jel or plumbers putty. You have just told me tyhatthe drain tested OK with no leaks. Your statement puts the leak in the trap or drain line. The ceiling will have to come out and a visual check on the source of the leak will have to be performed. Let me know what you find. Good luck, Tom
