    What is a sess pool?
We bought our home about a year and a half ago. Instead of a septic system, they say it has a cess pool. I am really not sure what that is and the diffrence between the two. No one seems to give us a good answer. Also, they said we had about 2 years until it needed to be pumped. We were looking to do it sooner to try and avoid any problems. Is it treated like a septic system when it comes to pumping it? I have also read that they are dangerous and can collapse. Is there any truth to this?

A cess pool is pretty much a septic tank with no field tiles. It just allow the cleaner surface water to soak into the ground.

If the cesspool is not maintained properly and pumped out when it should, then it could erode the container and surrounding ground causing a collapse. I know its happened a few times on LI in the last few years. At least one person died after it collapsed under him.
