Light fixture caught in a flood.
My 3rd floor toilet overflowed and the water came down to the second floor. It leaked through the ceiling and through the light fixture. A lot of water was dripping out of the light fixture. It's a ceiling fan. This happened two days ago but it seems to have stopped dripping water. Will I have to replace it or when its completely dry or will it work again? What should I do about it?

I would turn off power and inspect wires in Fan Canopy, and Switch housing, if it looks OK and is Dried out, then I would try and Watch. Any Smoke or smells, you may want to replace.

My husband had an electrician look at the ceiling fan. He said the light switch was fried and replaced it. So now we have light. He said the fan mechanism makes a strange sound and we might have to replace the ceiling fan.

    What make/model is the fan?

Normally this shouldn't cause you any permanent problems.
