    Recently married,can I add my spouse as dependent for 2007 tax retuns
    HI,
    I got married on Feb 10TH 2008,and ma spous arrived here in us on March 17TH.I didn't file for tax returns of 2007,now I'm ready to file for 2007 tax returns.So can I add my spouse as dependent for 2007 tax returns.

    Any suggentions will be apreciated

    No - you can't file as married if you weren't married as of December 31, 2007. And you can't file as Head of Houshold and claim your fiancé as a dependent, since she was not living with you last year.

    Thanks! But my Tax Filer with whom I was taking help he has been suggesting me to go and apply for dependent too.
    Now I'll ask him not to include my wife.

    1. If your tax filer does not know even this, then better get rid of the tax filer.

    2. Also wife is never considered a dependent. For 2008 return, you can file as MFJ or MFS (if you are resident or citizen of the U.S.)
