I have a 9 year old Hampton Bay ceiling fan with light kit. The original light bulb quit working. I attempted to change it but cannot for the life of me figure out how to get te cover off to change it. There are no thumbscrews and no visible catches or clips. I went to the Hampton Bay website but it was useless. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Usually, you apply pressure and rotate the glass and it drops out.

Try pulling it out. Some have clips that hold them in and are simply pushed into place and pulled out. Sorry for the vague description, but I cannot think of the part the holds the light cover in place.

The glass is actually inside a lip so it won't drop out - it is not external to the housing. I've tried rotating it with no luck. Any other ideas?

I've e-mailed Hampton Bay and although it is a Hampton Bay fixture they told me they don't make it! Go figure!!

Call them they can direct you to who did make it.

The glass has a lip but the lip has gaps that allow it to drop out when it is properly aligned.

Try unscrewing the glass cover just like you would a light bulb. Since it's been there a while it may take some force. Wear leather gloves. It would more than likely unscrew clockwise, but you may try counterclockwise if you have no luck your first try.

If it's not the screw type cover and it appears to have clips inside the glass holding it in, try pulling it out like you would pull a heavy dresser.. Rotate pressure one side at a time. There would be nothing else holding it in but the clips themselves.
