16 yrs later.. SUPRISE YOU ARE DAD!!
    Okay.. here we go..
My husband received court papers April 2005 suing for paternity for a sixteen year old girl.. it turns out he's the father.. he asked the woman back then if he was the dad she says no way.. out of the blue we get these papers because she ends up on the system and the system wants dad to pay his fair (or unfair) share.. so over the past ten months it has been one court appearance after another to determine paternity, notice of discovery for his income and now to determine support.. we have been married for 13 years this year and were together for about five before that.. this woman was a "thing" during a brief breakup.. anyway
We have two small children 6 and 2 and a life.. he has tried to establish a relationship with the sixteen year old and she wants no part of him although the mom says she does but also says she's at an age where she can't talk to her..
Can someone please tell me what the law states for NYS on the grounds of child support and abandonment by the child.. because this is where we are headed.. this is just so wrong..

From what I hear, child support isn't a lot of money and it will only be for less than 2 years.

I am sure you could apply for some type of custody or visitation, after all you are (or will be) paying child support.

If he has been shown to be the father, he is liable for child support, the fact the child does not want to see him makes no difference. You could force visitation but why. He needs to pay his child support, and leave his door open to the girl, she most likely believes she was deserted by the men in her life. She may want to get to know you, It may be never, it may be in one month, it may be in two years. He will just have to wait and see and be there for her if she does latter.
