Hi,

We went to see and put a deposit down last night for a border collie pup and I would like to pick him up on the 10th, meaning he will be around 7-7 and a half weeks old, can you please tell me if this is to early for him to leave his Mum or would that be OK?

Also what injections and treatments does he need when we first get him?

Typically when I was breeding dogs I did not like to let them go until at least 8 weeks old. As far as immunizations? Check with your local vet. He will advise you on what and when to start shots.

I don't know how much you know about puppies so I am going to post /repost some helpful information. Make sure that you do not have your puppy around places where he can contract parvo . Also be aware that it is said that parvo can be brought in on the bottom of shoes.I would talk with a vet/appointment asap and while there I would make sure that he stayed off the floor and did not sniff or associate with the other animals. Also outside in the grassy area before you go into the office I would not let him walk around or use the potty. I think we are going to collect the puppy when it's 7 weeks old and keep it indoors until it's had it's jabs, can you please give me some more information about parvo, I've never heard of this and what do I need to do to prevent my puppy doesn't get this or will he be OK once he's had the jabs?

Whenever I get a puppy from a breeder I always wait till they are 12weeks old. That way they have been soclized enough that that they can be moved into a home envorment. And have lease behavior problems.

Waiting until 12 weeks is a bad mistake. That is about the time puppies cease to adjust to new things as well. More recent studies have confirmed the sharp decline found in Scott and Kellog's classic work.

7-8 weeks is good, and never before 6 weeks. A couple I picked up at 45 days did fine.
