I installed a wireless usb adapter and a router to my desktop. When I did the ping and ipconfig /release, everything seem OK but when I try to do a ipconfig /renew I get an error message. When I check network connection I see limited or no connectivity. I have a wireless connection on my laptop but not on the desktop. The adapter and ethernet say they are working properly. I have unplugged everything and tried to reset everything, still no ip address. I have even called called each manufacture and my cable provider, still no ip address and connections. Pleas help I am at wits end. Thanks

Are you sure the NIC is set to obtain an IP automatically?

Make sure that your wireless network connection is enabled. Ensure you are operating in the same mode between wireless router and NIC and on the same channel.

Router Troubleshooting - Patriot Media

Please power cycle in the following order:

Power down computer
Power down router
Power down modem
Wait 30 seconds
Then power up modem and wait 30 seconds
Then power up the router
Power up the computer.
Check for an Internet connection
