I just installed a new bath drain kit. Upon testing there is a small leak at the connection of the brass waste shoe and the brass tee connector. In this kit a slipnut tightens a rubber washer to seal that connection. Is there anything else I can use to seal that connection?

Where the tube for the shoe goes into the tee you can loosen the nut and slip the rubber washer away from the tee about an inch and then get some putty and make a very small roll and put it on the tube next to the tee, in other words make a putty ring, and then slip the washer back into place and then tighten the nut bac up, the putty should ooze into any small spaces and seal the joimt to prevent leaks.

As a rule, and with no pressure involved, just cranking down a little harder will stop the leak. If you follow letmetellu's advice do not over tighten the compression nut as the putty will swell and crack a compression nut made of pot metal. I've seen this happen more then once. Regards, tom

Thanks for the advice. Before trying to add plumbers putty to the joint I loosened the slipnut and reseated the rubber washer. I was careful not to over tighten the slipnut upon reassembly. I tested the drain and now no water is seeping through the joint.

Lesson learned here is to carefully seat the washer and don't over tighten the slip nut. A problem with a pesky horizontal pipe connection is now solved.
