Isn't this what is meant by "Why buy the cow when the milk is free?"

Holy cow! I can't believe that. Do any of these people have any pride? Yikes, I'm speechless, you all know that doesn't happen to often.

    WELFARE CADILLAC
    Recorded by Guy Drake
Words and music by Guy Drake

I've never worked much, In fact
I've been poor all my life
I guess all I really own
Is ten kids and a wife
This house I live in is mine
    But it's really a shack
But I've always managed to somehow
Drive me a brand new Cadillac.

    The back door steps...
    They done fell plumb down
The front screen door is off and
Laying somewhere out there on the ground
    The wind just now whooped
Up another piece of that tar
Roofing off the back; I sure hope it don't
    Skin up that new Cadillac.

    The front porch post fell
    Loose at the bottom
It don't make no sense to fix 'em
'Cause that floor's just too darn rotten
In Winter time we sometimes have some snow
That blows in through the cracks
If it gets too bad we all just pile up
And sleep out there in that new Cadillac.

I know the place ain't much
But I sure don't pay no rent
I get a check the first of every month
    From this here Federal Government
    Every Wednesday I get commodities
    Sometimes four or five sacks
Pick 'em up down at the Welfare Office
    Driving that new Cadillac.

    Some folks say I'm crazy
And I've even been called a fool
But my kids get free books and
All them there free lunches at school
We get peanut butter and cheese
And man, they give us flour by the sack
    'Course them Welfare Checks
They meet the payments on this new Cadillac.

Now the way that I see it
These other folk are the fools
    They're working and paying taxes
Just to send my young'uns through school
The Salvation Army cuts their hair and
Gives them clothes to wear on their backs
So we can dress up and ride around
And show off this new Cadillac.

But things are still going to get better yet
At least that's what I understand
They tell me this new President
Has put in a whole new poverty plan
He's going to send us poor folks money
They say we're going to get it out here in sacks
In fact, my wife's already shopping around
    For her new Cadillac.

Hell id rather be paying my taxes and it going to a british family than the b-loody array of refuges and sodding asylum seekers we have here that get even bigger flipping hand outs don't be so quick to judge these people there's more to there story than meets the eye they were on TV not long back and the kids do actually have special needs admittedly she is what I would call a bloody good reason to be sterilized.

The politically incorrect solution ! It definitely has some appeal.

Tom a friend of mine has 4 kids all adopted all have the same mother, that mother has had 5 other kids all been taken from her and yet they can't stop her having them its cases like that where the decision should be made for them the cost of having the children put into care and then adpoted out is massive the 4 my friend has are the lucky ones they got to stay together and she has had no end of problems with two of them they have learning dificultys so that's costing the government too.
There is just no end to any of it and no matter where you live or what you do these people will always exist.

I don't disagree with you . There was a controversial talk show host here in NY that would advocate a policy of tubal ligation for any welfare recipient who continued to make babies while on the public dole. It doesn't sound like a draconian solution at all when your pocket is being legally picked .

I think its just crazy that its allowed to carry on when there are genuine familys that need help and they government here just brushes them under the carpet, It all baffles me to be perfectly frank and it probably always will I have chosen to stay at home and look after our children and ben supports us but the honest reason for that is that I wouldn't earn enough to cover child care so I may as well be at home warm and happy with my kids and you know what I don't claim a thing its tight but we manage because we are normal people who don't bleed the system dry.

CMW - I'm exactly like you. When my son was born I was going to take a year off and then go back to work, but we found out that with daycare costs, parking fees etc. I'd actually be paying to go to work. What's the point? My youngest starts school full days next year and that's when I'm going back to the work place. But we've never gotten public assistance. Living on one paycheck is tough, but doable.

As for others, I don't know. That article left me speechless. If some of her kids have special needs than I can understand why she feels the need to stay home, but what about the husband, or the other adults under that roof. If you don't instill work ethics into your children, and show them that they can live off the government, than you aren't doing your job as a parent, these people should teach their kids that working is a way of life, you can't just have everything handed to you. That's just my opinion.

I know families like this one they think and act like everyone owes them.
I had to be on welfare but it makes me crazy the ones that make it a way of life and act like it isn't enough as their new Rent A Center 60 inch TV screen is being hauled into the house.

Jean says: "My own dad worked down the pit, but my mum didn't work, so I suppose I wanted the same life that she had when I grew up. I just wanted to be at home and live off other people."

How's that for our inspirational quote of the day? :)
