    Receiving money?
Recently I received checks for my pension plan from a place of previous employment. I was confused because I was not there long enough to be fully vested, so I called the mutual company and they said that in their contract it said nothing about being vested and that the money was mine. I even called back on another day to ask someone else, and they said the same thing. So I cashed the checks. The checks were written out to myself and our shop steward, only I signed them, but the bank cashed them anyway. Now my previous employer is trying to get the money back. Do you know if I will have to give the money back? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

If they can show, with something in writing, that you were NOT due the money, then what the morons told you will be of no matter - unless you happened to record the conversation (and that the recording is permissible by your state laws).

I would advise them of what the other two told you and have them show you in writing why you are not due the money.

... and if they do, you're pretty much stuck... unless you can (and want to) find an attorney who 1. Thinks you have a case, and 2. Is willing to take it on.

... but I'm sure you'll find that you'll need to shell out some bucks in advance to pursue it.

Sorry to pass along less than pleasant news... :o
