Federal deficit surplus Bill Clinton left.
Bill Clinton left a 350 billion federal deficit surplus when he left office. How long did it take the President Bush to go through this and how much is it now?

There was a surplus when Clinton left, now there is a deficit of literally several trillions of dollars. I am not sure exactly how long it took, but not very long.

Db where you been hiding all these years ?

The Clinton surplus was inflated by a stock-price bubble that burst at the end of his term. Capital gains receipts were unusually high .Government forecasts for continued surpluses depended on those tax payments continuing. The economy went into a drop instead as a result of the tech stock bubble burst. The 1st tax cut that president Bush proposed was working towards a economic turnaround and then 9-11 happened . Unfortunately the so called "peace dividend" that Clinton claimed after the Cold War left the military thin and massives increases in Defense spending needed to be done to fight jihadistan . That and the irresponsible spending by the Republican Congress that Bush failed to use his veto pen on resulted in the current budget defict. However ;up until this year the stimulative nature of the 2 Bush tax cuts were rapidly reducing the deficit . I doubt if the reductions will continue with the combined rebate program and the rather generous sound of the Democrat Congress's bail out pledges. But not to worry ;they plan to penalize the job makers in the economy to pay for their generosity .

My son and I are in opposition on this same question. I suggest anyone who wants the facts on this go to the link I am posting here: The Myth of the Clinton Surplus
Good stuff, and you don't even have to smoke it, just believe it because it is the truth!

So under the Clinton administration was our economy better than that of the Bush Administration? And did we not see a spiraling out of control during his administration and needless to say it continues under President Obma. What happens often is that we get lost in our party rhetoric vice what is truly good or right for the people. We can continue with our political rhetoric and the economy will continue on a downward spiral. I would like to go back to the Clinton days, when less people was out of work and our economy was booming.

I miss those days of good ol' Bill. He was the man and not little weasels like Bush and Obama. Just look at both of their little weasel faces. In my eyes neither of them are worth the cost of a bullet and they should not even be able to be called presidents or ex presidents. Bush and Obama suck a big one.
