My mothers granddaughter died recently. When she was young her mother passed and we had to go to court to get my mothers visitation rights to see her grand daughter. The father remarried and didn't want us to have any contact. The grand daughter left behind a 9 year old son who does not know his father (never paid any support and didn't want any parental rights). Does the great grand mother now have any legal rights to seeing her great grand son?

You would probably have to go through the same thing you did to see her mother - unless you can work it out without going to court... try talking to whomever got custody of the child and see if it can be done without going to court. He has a right to know his great grandmother!
