    Taxes on OPT->H1
    Hi,

    A question on taxes for someone on OPT moving to H1.

    If I get an H1 for the next year (06), I believe it starts from Oct. 1.
    Till then I am on OPT, so no social security tax until then.
    But, what's the date for tax purposes when my status actually changes? The day I get H1 (say Oct 1) or the day I go out of country and get it stamped on my passport. So, effectively, what I want to know is can SS taxes be saved in this way.

    Thanks in advance,
    CP.

    CP:

    The day the H-1 visa is effective is the day you should start paying Social Secueity and Medicare taxes.
