    Installing Rainbird Sprinkler Timer
My subject timer appears to have died. It appears I can easily replace it by just mapping the wires. My only problem is, how is the control box (Rainbird, 12 stations) fastened to the garage wall? It appears I can't pull it off without breaking the box.

Sounds like one of those after you bust it, you will be able to what you needed to do. Maybe you will be lucky enough that somebody here knows. My guess is that it has the key hole shaped holes that slip over screw heads and then down. There could be screws holding the case under the timer, or coming in from the other side of the wall. Best bet might be to get a look at one, a new one at the dealer, a picture on the web site, etc. You might even be able to find directions for mounting it.

Labman: My guess was that it was mounted on a key hole device. If that is the case, I should be able to remove it by lifting. I tried that a bit, but maybe not hard enough! Of course the wiring may be holding it in place. I've looked at the timers in the hardware store, but could not find the same model--largest they carry is 9 stations. My theory is that anyone who owns a lot requiring more than 9 stations never replaces timers themselves, so they don't carry them. I'll go out and remove the wiring and try lifting the box. Thanks!

Problem solved. I pulled the wires, which exposed the anchor screw. Removing the anchor screw allowed the two keyholes at the top of the box to slide up and off the screws at the top. Thanks,
