My minnow got caught in our filter but is alive but upside down. What's the best thing for me to do? Will it recover or is it slowly dying?

Sorry to hear about the death of your fish.
For future reference, when a fish gets stuck to the filter,
It is already in the process of dying and too weak to swim away from the filter therefore getting sucked up to it.
You can move it away from the filter, like you did in this case,
Just so that it can die without the stress of the filter.
You did the right thing by removing, sorry once again that you lost a fish.
