Some things you should be doing:

    1. Be sure you're running a firewall on your PC.
    2. Run antivirus software, and set it up to scan any downloads. AVG Free is a good option.
    3. Run spyware/adware detectors regularly (at least once/week). I recommend running both AdAware Free and Spybot S&D, since they tend to find different things in my experience.
    4. Run Windows Update regularly (at least once/week).
    5. Set your email client to display messages as plain text, not HTML.

Do everything on that list that he said, you may also want to try changing your ip address. A hacker kept repeatedly trying to hack my computer (my protection plan stopped it), changing my IP address stopped the annoying popup windows saying "this ip address is trying to access your comptuer."
