    Whelping Puppies!
[F] 4 weeks ago today, I helped my female Chihuahua, whelp 3 healthy, beautiful little girls. Mom and girls are all doing great! They have all been to the vet, and she will be getting Spayed as soon as the Vet says she can! She did great, and everything went smoothly and with basically no complications, and she did not need much assistance! What a trooper!! I used to breed Chihuahuas and have never had this happen to me!! The last puppy that was born came out fine, except for one thing. When she was born, without any interference from me, she came out with her Umbilical Cord, already TORN from the Placenta and bleeding everywhere. I clamped and tied the umbilical cord off, and immediately, stopped the bleeding. The Placenta came out immediately after that! My question is: What would cause an Umbilical Cord, to tear like that, and not be attached to the Placenta, like it normally would? What happened??

Probably just a combination of a weak spot in the cord and a hard contraction at the wrong time that pushed the puppy out and the placenta back. Good thing you followed your instincts.
