Usually we hear it's the hot water that is the problem but the fixes are the same. Close down the main or, if you valve has integral stops close them, and remove the handle and escutcheon plate. You need to remove the cartridge and clean the debris from the inlet. If you don't know how a brand name or picture would help us give you directions. With the cartridge out cover the opening with a towel and have someone open and close the main to clear out the lines.
Ballenger explained the process well... Now, how about giving us the name on that shower valve so I can post a picture showing you an exploded view of all the parts involved?
If this is a moen valve.. all parts are guaranteed for a lifetime. In fact, a few manufacturers have lifetime warranty on parts today... let us know name.. or go online and see if can find a pic that resembles yours.. or better yet... take a picture of your valve and post to this site under GO ADVANCED feature, and we will probably be able to tell you the name.
Let us know. Mark
