    Closet flange
Wanting to move the 3inch drain above the floor joists. I have a closet flange that goes into a riser, from the riser it goes into 3"x3"1.5" dwv for the sink. Could I cut the length of the riser so it will be above the floor joists? Or could I go with a closet bend and tie into the sink drain further down. Or could I use a 4 inch pipe?

Wasme... I am not clear on your question. What kind of pipe is this?

Are you asking if you can cut the 3" riser pipe, and extend it so that a new closet flange can be installed above the floor?

If I get your question right... and the pipe is plastic, then you can cut the pipe, add a coupling and some pipe and then install the closet flange so it sits ON TOP of the finished floor.

Let me know what you can... see if I can answer better... Mark

I can tell you exactly how to do the work you need to do... but I need you to tell me exactly what you are doing.

Just wanting to move horizontal pipe above floor joists does not tell me what you are doing with that pipe once it is above floor. I need to know what you want to do with it to tell you how to do it... ;)

That make sense? I post in at 6:30 - 7:30 most mornings (east coast), again at lunch break, and then I am on from 8 - 11 pm plus or minus... most days/nights... get back to me then and we can work this out fast for you. Take care... Mark

    Wasme:

You cannot raise that pipe near foundation into the joists. You cannot NOTCH the joist... must drill it... BUT this pipe would require you to drill a 4 inch hole , and that will not work here, because you cannot remove more then 1/3 of joist.. so no go there.

You may be able to roll that pipe that parallels the joists up into the joist bay... but you are talking a lot of work for little gained... And it looks like joist bay was headed off... so questions on that.

Lets see what Bob or the others think about this... give them a chance to respond.

I would probably just box out around this and PUNT! My opinion... Good luck.

The short floor joists is just extra support. Are they needed? If I box in the pipe I wouldn't have much head room. The space below the drain would become the bahrhoom.
